Abstract

The MDA relies on complex simulations to test and enhance capabilities of the ballistic missile defense system. This requires extensive simulation and analysis of results. As simulations become more advanced, they produce more data. It is essential to begin now to develop improved techniques to manage this increased data and make it more accessible for analysis. Simulation data must be analyzed to assess the performance of the simulated system and to identify trends and anomalies. Traditional storage techniques are not adequate to allow efficient storage and analysis of the anticipated volume of data. They make it difficult to collect all data into a single data warehouse for processing. Existing data mining algorithms are difficult to apply to large data sets efficiently. In response to this need, ECI proposes its ASCEND solution, which equips users to define, manage and analyze simulation results. These analytics will be essential for examining the implications of specific aspects of simulations; this will allow users to produce accurate results and insights into the meaning of data produced in the simulations. It will also be a scalable analytic architecture that can be applied to the large data sets that will be produced in BMDS simulations. Approved for Public Release | 18-MDA-9817 (23 Oct 18)
