Appeon is a cloud application development company headquartered in Hong Kong with R&D center in Shenzhen, China and business office in San Francisco, California. The company was founded in 1999 in San Francisco providing web solutions for PowerBuilder, an integrated development environment (IDE) by Sybase (Sybase was acquired by SAP in 2010).
On July 5, 2016, SAP and Appeon entered into an agreement whereby Appeon would be responsible for developing, selling, and supporting PowerBuilder. On June 30, 2017, PowerBuilder 2017 was launched by Appeon. This release is the first new installment of PowerBuilder from Appeon and is the first release of PowerBuilder to support Windows 10, iOS, and Android app development.
In 2018, Appeon expanded the PowerBuilder IDE to support development of cloud apps with the C# programming languages on the open-source .NET Core framework. C# developers can now use PowerBuilder to develop cloud apps.
Appeon was founded on June 29, 1999 in San Francisco, California. The name Appeon is a combination of the word application abbreviated as "app" and the word eon. The name captures the founders belief that software applications should and can be built to have a much longer useful life.
In December 2002, Appeon released to the general public Appeon for PowerBuilder, a plugin to the PowerBuilder integrated development environment (IDE), which automatically converts most PowerScript code and PowerBuilder features into a JavaScript-based app that runs in a Web browser against a Java application server.
On April 30, 2008, Appeon released a version of Appeon for PowerBuilder for the .NET framework and Microsoft IIS. The release supported natively calling .NET assemblies developed in PowerBuilder or other .NET-compliant tools.
On May 3, 2013, Appeon released a version of Appeon for PowerBuilder for iOS and Android. The release supported deploying PowerBuilder projects to mobile devices running iOS and Android, and expanded PowerBuilder application functionality to include various mobile-targeted features through Apache Cordova plugins.
On June 30, 2017, SAP's PowerBuilder was re-launched by Appeon as PowerBuilder 2017. This release was the first new installment of PowerBuilder from Appeon (rather than SAP), and was the first release of PowerBuilder to support Windows 10, iOS, and Android app development. Appeon renamed its flagship product Appeon for PowerBuilder to Appeon PowerServer to avoid confusion between the two product names.

Appeon PowerServer (formerly known as Appeon for PowerBuilder or just Appeon) automatically converts existing PowerBuilder desktop apps into JavaScript-based Web apps deployed to a .NET or Java application server. The tool supports automatic conversion of many PowerScript commands and PowerBuilder features. It is compatible with Chrome, FireFox, Edge, Internet Explorer, and Opera web browsers.Sybase OEM'ed PowerServer in its EAServer Java application server until 2010 (when Sybase was acquired by SAP).
Appeon InfoMaker is a reporting tool for creating reports and forms without requiring any SQL programming or knowledge of SQL. Reports are created through wizards and point-and-click query construction, and InfoMaker generates all SQL statements for the particular relational database. InfoMaker is powered by the DataWindow technology in PowerBuilder. So it can also be used by non-developers to customize DataWindows in PowerBuilder client/server apps.
