Childhood and youth

Alexander Gvozdik was born in Kharkiv on April 15, 1987. The boy became interested in martial arts thanks to his father. Already in the 5th grade, Sasha attended the kickboxing section. After a few months of training, he became interested in boxing and changed his profile direction. In the first amateur fight, Sasha was the winner. At the age of 10, he started going to training at the Metalist club. The development of the athlete was handled by coach Alexander Volodchenko.Gvozdik received his higher education at the Kharkiv National Pedagogical University named after G. S. Skovoroda. Then the boxer graduated from the National Law Academy. Yaroslav the Wise. Thus, the athlete took care of the moment when his sports career will be completed and a new stage will come in his biography.

Martial arts

Alexander's debut significant victory happened in 2008, when Gvozdik won the championship among students. After that, fortune did not turn away from the athlete. Since 2009, he has regularly won the main prizes at Ukrainian light heavyweight competitions. In 2010, the athlete turned out to be the winner of the European Boxing Cup.The 2009 and 2011 World Championships were less successful for Alexander Gvozdik. He failed to win prizes. 2012 was marked for the boxer by admission and obtaining a license to participate in the Olympics held in London. The athlete was able to reach the semifinals of the competition, but lost the championship to Adilbek Niyazymbetov, receiving only a bronze medal.The Universiade 2013, held in Kazan, helped him to rehabilitate himself. Representing his native country, Alexander competed against opponents whose weight did not exceed 81 kg. He managed to win a gold medal.In 2014, Gvozdik began cooperation with the sports organization Top Rank. In early April, the first professional fight took place. Already in 2016, Alexander knocked out Najib Mohammadi, a former contender for the world title, on the floor of the ring, and in July he met Tommy Carpensi. In November, the athlete defeated Isaac Chilembu and in March 2018, he became the leader of the meeting with Mehdi Amar, becoming the WBC world champion in his category.The victory over Adonis Stevenson in December 2018 brought the athlete the championship title again. However, it was temporary.

Personal life

Together with his family, Alexander Gvozdik lives in the USA. The athlete met his wife Daria in Ukraine. They moved to America when they were already parents of two children. In a new place, the couple had a third child. In interviews, Alexander often admits that he is happy in his personal life, since his wife is his close friend.Now, in their free time, the family often travels, discovering new corners of an unknown country. Alexander and Daria share photos with fans on Instagram.The height of the boxer is 190 cm, and the weight is 79 kg.

In 2019, Alexander is named among the highest-paid Ukrainian athletes.

Boxing fans enjoyed watching his meeting with Russian Arthur Beterbiev, which took place on October 18 in Philadelphia. The unification fight for the WBC and IBF world title, which lasted 10 rounds, ended with Beterbiev's victory.
