Vladimir Drinfeld

Vladimir Drinfeld, born Vladimir Gershonovich Drinfeld on February 14, 1954 , is a mathematician originally from Kharkiv . He was educated at Moscow State University's Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics and MSU Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics . Throughout his career, he has held citizenship in the Soviet Union , Ukraine , and the United States .

Drinfeld was awarded the Fields Medal in 1990 and has mentored doctoral students, including Evan Meredith Jenkins and Jonathan Wang . He worked under the supervision of Yuri Manin during his own doctoral studies . Currently, Drinfeld is employed at the University of Chicago .
