Virtual Kitchen Co. was founded in 2018 by former Uber executives Matt Sawchuk, Ken Chong, and Andro Radonich. The company uses data analytics to find unused commercial spaces in populated areas. It then purchases or rents the property and installs commercial kitchens to allow delivery-only restaurants to fulfill orders without opening a storefront location. Virtual Kitchen refers to the restaurants operating out of their kitchens as "partners," these partners consist of established restaurants looking to out-source delivery, new restaurants trying to build customer bases without the cost of building a brick and mortar establishment, and other companies like food trucks looking to expand customer bases in new areas. Virtual Kitchen also developed software for partners to fulfill orders, track business expansion, and track revenue.
Virtual Kitchen has been backed by Andreessen Horowitz, Base10 Partners, Stephen Chau, JD Ross, Andre Charoo, Michael Stoppelman, and Keith Rabois.
