NASA's Valkyrie robot is a semi-autonomous robot able to use human tools and guide itself across difficult terrain. It was originally designed for disaster relief for DARPA's robotics challenge trials and as time progresses, it is being altered with advancements in hopes that the robot can build basic infrastructure if or when humans commence living in outer space.
Valkyrie is six feet two inches tall and weighs 300 pounds. It contains two Intel Core i7 computers and a 1.8 kilowatt battery. It also has LIDAR technology so that it can scan for people or objects around it. In addition, Valkyrie has a MultiSense SL camera as well as cameras on its backside for scanning purpose. There are 38 sensors on each hand for dexterity purposes and has 44 degrees of freedom.
The humanoid robot had made advancements with walking on uneven terrain. It is also capable of building scaffolding, which is intended to be utilized to create new habitats for humans when they move to another planet.
