Smith Electric Vehicles is a company manufacturing electric commercial trucks that is headquartered in Kansas City, Missouri and was founded in 2009 by Robin Mackie. In 2017 Smith Electric Vehicles cased all business operations after suspending their production of electric vehicles in April 2014; the company also briefly resumed its production in February 2015 after receiving support from FDG Electric Vehicles.
On January 27, 2010 Smith Electric Vehicles completed their series B funding round with $25 million in funding from undisclosed investors. The company raised funding to work on increasing the sales of their electric trucks.
On May 12, 2014 Smith Electric Vehicles completed a venture capital round with $42 million in funding from Sinopoly Battery. The CEO of Smith Electric Vehicles, Bryan Hansel, made the following public state regarding the companies venture funding from Sinopoly Battery:
