Simon Newcomb

Simon Newcomb was born on March 12, 1835, in Nova Scotia , and held citizenship in both Canada and the United States . He was a multifaceted individual with a diverse range of occupations including astronomer , mathematician , economist , novelist , writer , and teacher .

Newcomb was educated at Harvard University and the Harvard John A. Paulson School of Engineering and Applied Sciences . His doctoral advisor was Benjamin Peirce , and one of his doctoral students was Henry Ludwell Moore .
