Rainway

Rainway is a Seattle-based developer of real-time, low-latency tools for streaming, intended for developers and organizations to develop interactive streaming.

Rainway is a company that participated in the Class 123 - Seattle 2018 Q1 cohort of Techstars. The company is a developer of an online interactive streaming platform designed to create a better real-time streaming experience. Rainway's platform is developed to leverage technology to build a cloud gaming service, create a system of secure thin clients, or evolution in remote work alternatives.

Solution

The company's tools are developed for game developers, independent developers, and organizations to help build streaming services for computing, collaboration, and productivity. In gaming, Rainway offers a low-latency, device-agnostic streaming technology to stream games on smartphones, tablets, or not-supported operating systems. Rainway is compatible with games purchased through Steam, Origin, Battle.net, itch.io, GOG.com, and Uplay and can run in web browsers, on MacOS, on iOS and Android mobile phones, and after a partnership with Microsoft, on Xbox consoles.

Rainway initially garnered attention when the company announced it would allow for the streaming of PC games on the Nintendo Switch. This streaming was intended to offer games streaming at sixty frames per second on the device, without need for additional hardware, so long as the equipped graphics processor supported DirectX 11.

Rainway App Services

Announced in March 2021, Rainway offered their streaming technology to be available for licensing for developers, entertainment, media, live support, and computing companies, to allow those companies to create new streaming products and services. This offered Rainway's SDK, intended to be plug-and-play, and allowed these services to build their own experiences on top of Rainway's technology.

This SDK, intended for enterprise company, is intended to build on the gaming services browser, especially as that allows the company or any company using Rainway's SDK to build services for Apple platforms without needing to receive approval from Apple. As well, Rainway has suggested the company will offer features and tools to Rainway App Services specifically designed for enterprise in addition to the company's existing services.
