Mifren

Mifren (pronounced my-fren) is an American social networking and travel website that is privately owned and operated by Bavolar LLC. The website offers a way for members to connect with friends and family, meet people from around the world, and gives them a way to share their interests. The website provides members with information needed for travel to islands around the globe. Travelers can find information on islands, places to see and things to do, popular attractions, island restaurants and other resources.

The site was founded by Mario McKenzie, a Jamaican college student and entrepreneur in July 2009, but did not officially launch until November 1, 2010.

The site was founded in July 2009 by Mario McKenzie, a college student and entrepreneur, who was 23 years old at the time, attending Broward College in South Florida. McKenzie reportedly passed on going back to school in the fall of 2009 in order to work full-time as a security guard and a logistics clerk in order to get funding because of the difficulties in getting funding through other methods. He finally accumulated enough capital and personally financed the development of Mifren, finally launching it on November 1, 2010.

Travelers are provided with information on island restaurants, places to see and things to do, the ability to get information from other members living on these islands and from other people who have visited.

Users can create free profiles with an email address and other personal information. Members can communicate with each other through private messages, activity feed posting and through instant chat. Members can create groups to share interests with like-minded people and upload photos to create albums.

Members can browse the island directory to read articles about islands, browse island restaurants and suggest them to friends that are on the website or off. Island restaurant owners can create listings about their restaurants, each listing has its own page that provide members with information on the restaurant, a map to find the restaurant, allow customers to post and read reviews, and post comments and questions that restaurant owners can respond to.
