Kabocha is a self-evolving community parachain project spawned from Edgeware, accelerating founders, creators and teams building new public infrastructure.
Kabocha is Edgeware's parachain candidate for Kusama. We're accelerating founders, creators and teams to build the subverse and metaverses for Web 3.0.
We will be delivering the Edgeware community into the Kusama ecosystem through an 100% undiluted distribution for Edgeware token holders.
We’re doing it in Edgeware style, staying true to a fully community backed approach, while capturing the spirit of Kusama.
Whereas Kusama is Polkadot’s experimental cousin, Edgeware is Kabocha’s mother and Kusama its technological father who houses an aria of canaries on its relay. Kabocha will inherit its father’s experimental and chaotic traits and will help realise its vision of being a nesting hub for the future of decentralised systems.
We propose a parachain that continues Edgeware’s governance and treasury experiment, community-driven mentality and applies to a multi-chain world, accelerating projects that further develop metaverses and the subverse.
Joining up with the Kusama network will enable seamless interoperability which will create new opportunities for real collaboration, co-operation and co-evolvement with other chains and communities. Be prepared for interesting, experimental and somewhat chaotic projects that push boundaries and inspire people to become immersed in Web 3.0 realms.
Will be targeting slots after the crowdloan process ends, slot ~15 onwards until we win an auction.

ḳ
The unicode ḳ symbol with a small dot represents the seed of ideas that will be funded by Kabocha, the strong growth like ancient trees that grow over a long period of time.
Kabocha has been incubated by members of the Edgeware community who have collectively developed the project, imbuing the chain with a founding spirit of community, co-evolution and co-operacy. Our values will be embodied in the social technologies, the stories we tell and the way we define success together.
We value:
Emergent leadership
Participatory economy
Social etiquette
We aim to resonate with Kusama's core values as an experimental chaotic playground of possibilities.
The Kabocha mission inherited from its mother Edgeware is to simply be the best place for teams to launch their projects from. Edgeware’s un-intimidating emergent leadership culture lets people build experience in all facets of decentralised organisations through participation.
Kabocha will nurture and cultivate founders, creators and teams to build networks and tools of the future. We will give rise to new ways of designing social ecologies and interoperable network economies, working at the nexus of blockchain, art, media, science, and philosophy, for the betterment of all.
By bootstrapping on Edgeware’s fair and wide distribution, active governance and treasury, we offer something no other Substrate project can - a truly decentralised community accelerator owned and operated by no central authority or offering preferential terms in private rounds that may later skew, confuse or constrain its public mission and assurances as to the project’s credible neutrality.
The Kabocha roadmap builds on Edgeware’s difficult-to-replicate advantages and is focused on evolving the incubator model into a multi-chain accelerator that advances tooling, parachains and relay networks that prioritise broad and fair community ownership. Our general approach is focused on improving the overall experience and capabilities for its users primarily around the everyday functions of DAOs.
We will be sourcing talent and projects from Edgeware’s incubator, as a result, much of Kabocha’s ‘roadmap’, will be glimpsed in Edgeware first, allowing us to maintain a close relationship between the two projects.
Community owned treasury that funds projects benefitting the Kabocha metaverse; the wider “subverse” ecosystem; as well as sustainably funding public goods and community owned assets.
Pallets that advance tooling for decentralised organisations and DAOs on substrate (governance, treasury and multisig evolutions);
Interoperability: leveraging other parachain and pallet tools to participate in co-evolution with values aligned partners.
DOrgs: better tooling will be introduced (more than just multisig) for people who want to organise and self-govern. DOrgs (aka DAO) functionality will enable sub communities to form “unstoppable” organisations, where they can create their own token and have more advanced voting than multisigs.
Chain Farming: Decentralised accelerator. Nurturing and funding teams and DOrgs to become their own networks, through treasury funding and part treasury part community funding. New chains can be funded through snapshot or retention of shares in new chain. (see upcoming post).
Store of values: build a reserve of community-owned assets, (NFTs) that represent the cultural capital of Kabocha. A museum of artifacts and rights that will gain value and utility over time for KAB holders.
Town Hall: holding community owned assets on-chain that represent virtual/real world assets and collateral: a register, contracts, titles, deeds, trusts, assets.
Co-evolution: token swaps with chains that align with Kabocha’s values
Kabocha Tenders: tenders are a process to invite proposals and bids for a project that the community has requested. These requests for proposals (RFPs) will be connected to applied research and development in native Web3, reinforcing the core mission of advancing the sustainable and scalable funding of decentralised global public goods, or requiring specialist contractors to build community owned assets. (Kabocha Tenders post coming soon).

Born from the womb of Edgeware:
Supportive Parent Can leverage EDG community and treasury to upstart a parachain.
Decentralised Incubator Experience as a community that fosters and funds founders and teams.
>8.5m blocks Kabocha is born from Edgeware, a benevolent community and one of the longest living self-governing Substrate chains alongside Kusama and Polkadot.
Speedy governance Edgeware has rapid speed governance therefore we’ve got plenitiful experience in working with on-chain governance on Substrate as a commmunity. Listen to Dillon talk about governance with Kusama and Acala.
Unique Talent Some of the creative and forward thinking designers and developers in the crypto space.
Distributed and Decentralised at launch. We are the only parachain so far that is keeping 100% of the same distribution for holders of its mother chain.
Active treasury Our treasury thesis for funding blockchain founders and teams has developed significantly over the past two years, and has incubated multiple teams and a broad range of projects across many disciplines with grants. Kabocha will now also include token swaps and retain shares and non-fungible assets in other chains.
A kabocha is a Japanese pumpkin. Pumpkins are Yayoi Kusama’s obsession. She is famous for pioneering polkadots.
“Kusama loves Kabocha”

We decided to choose a name in keeping with a connection to Kusama rather than a derivative of Edgeware since we are blending into the Kusama story.
Success is...
inspiring, questioning and creating benevolent realities.. And continuing to do so for centuries.
being the playground of possibilities where the most interesting, creative and inspiring talent and projects grow from.
contributing to the decentralised metaverse, and the subverse from which we came.
continuing to accelerate decentralised blockchain/Substrate/Web 3.0 based projects long into the future.
the gradual scaling of creative contributions, since that is the foundation of the network’s value propositions and our primary benchmark.
Token Utility
KAB is a community currency that can be used to:
Vote on governance proposals
Fund treasury proposals
Lock in to and fund Teams who start DOrgs.
Mint NFTs
KAB Distribution (No dilution)
The project will benefit from Edgeware’s broad and fair lockdrop distribution and mainnet status via a launch that takes a snapshot of the Edgeware chain, minting KAB 1:1 to EDG holders.

These figures are based on 20th October Edgeware distribution and will be slightly different when measured on snapshot day.

*KAB treasury is the initial treasury supply. Treasury proposals will be minted on ongoing basis.
Will EDG holders be diluted by Crowdloan rewards?
No. 100% of the EDG snapshot will be used as the Kabocha initial distribution, with no additional dilutions to EDG holders.
If no dilution then where will crowdloan rewards come from?
The only balance in the distribution that will change control is the treasury, which will be reassigned to KAB governance. This account will hold 6.43m KAB and will be used to reward Crowdloan participants, collators and maintainers for the initial parachain lease.
This approach will add no taxation or dilution to individual EDG holders, a pure 1:1 distribution.
You can review the crowdloan modelling document here.
4.9% (half of the treasury) of KAB is reserved for KSM lenders.
Reward per KSM will be dependent on the amount of KAB that is locked up in the Crowdloan.
Contributed KSM will be returned at the end of Kabocha parachain lease.
KAB will be distributed after the mainnet launch of Kabocha.
Vesting: 30% upfront, 70% vested over term of crowdloan.
no KYC is required, but participants must agree to Terms & Conditions where persons from certain jurisdictions are excluded, final legal and compliance conversations ongoing so we may need to update this in line with guidance.
Crowdloaners and snapshotters will receive further incentive to lock up their KSM on the second lease slot through a reward multiplier and evolving NFTs that unlock novel experiences.
After Kabocha’s initial treasury supply, Kabocha will not have fixed inflation going into its treasury account but instead, successful treasury proposals will be funded through minting new KAB.
Though there is no fixed inflation to accumulate in a treasury account, the treasury is not by contrast infinite.
Treasury funding will be proportionate to the supply of proposals and the demand from the community to fund them.
This will allow for more flexibility in the distribution of tokens to relevant and valuable contributing teams, it will also remove negative psychological effects that may arise from a depleting treasury.
Yearly inflation will be capped at 20%, though some years the aggregate of proposals will likely be much lower.
On a second parachain lease a proposal can be made to fund the Treasury supply with the agreed-upon rewards for crowdloans, collators, maintainers, etc.
Crowdloan Start Date: pre-register at the website to be first to know
The snapshot will happen 14 days after the auction win. Therefore the main focus of the community is to first win an auction, then we will have something to be snapshotting for! Wen Crowdloan?!
30% of KAB tokens will be made available during the beginning of the parachain lease (see Launch phases for when token balances are switched on), and the remaining 70% of balances will be locked until the end of the parachain lease (48 weeks).
After winning of a parachain lease, the chain will begin its activation process (phase 3). See more in Kabocha Launch Phases
After an auction win, the parachain will go through an onboarding phase, where governance will be switched off and an individual account will have sudo key providing administrative access. At this point EDG holders and KSM holders will receive KAB to their accounts but they will be non-transferable. Decentration will have sudo access during test phases.
After the onboarding phase the KAB governance will burn the sudo acccount, and after this point token balances which will be switched on and the chain will be live.
All funding proposals will be made directly to the Kaboccha community as a “SimpleMajority”, bypassing the council.
You will be able to contribute to the auction through the KSM interface here:

Parachains require Collators instead of Validators, who will be funded via the initial treasury.
