Forward Madison FC is an American professional soccer team based in Madison, Wisconsin, and founded on May 17, 2018. The team played its inaugural season in 2019 as a member of the USL League One.
The team plays its home matches at Breese Stevens Field, built in 1926. The outdoor venue was originally built as a baseball stadium and is now used for everything from concerts, to soccer matches, to ultimate frisbee tournaments, to festivals. The venue is located eight blocks from the Wisconsin Capitol building and was designated a Madison Landmark in 1995. Later, in 2014, it was accepted for inclusion on the National Register of Historic Places and the Wisconsin State Register of Historic Places.
The team is coached by Head Coach and Technical Director Matt Glaeser, Assistant Coaches Neil Hlavaty, John Pascarella, and Jim Launder, and Director of Soccer Operations and Development Keith Tiemeyer. Glaeser is a former goalkeeper for the University of Hartford, where he was named America East Goalkeeper Conference of the Year and NSCAA Northeast Region Goalkeeper of the Year.
The Forward Madison FC Flamingos were named for a 1979 prank at UW-Madison in which 1,008 pink flamingo lawn ornaments were scattered across the university's front lawn. Students took the flamingos as souvenirs, and they ultimately became a symbol of the city of Madison.
