Edward Witten

Edward Witten is a mathematician and physicist born on August 26, 1951, in Baltimore, United States . He is well-known for his work in M-theory .

Witten studied at various institutions, including Brandeis University, Park School of Baltimore, and the University of Wisconsin–Madison . He completed his education at Princeton University .

Throughout his career, Witten has supervised numerous doctoral students, such as Cumrun Vafa, Shamit Kachru, Eva Silverstein, Dror Bar-Natan, Xiao-Gang Wen, and Sergei Gukov . His own doctoral advisor was David Gross .

In recognition of his work, Edward Witten received the Fields Medal in 1990 . He is the father of Jason Witten .
