Dan Shechtman

Dan Shechtman is a physicist, chemist, and engineer who was born on January 24, 1941, in Tel Aviv . He holds dual citizenship in Israel and the United States . Shechtman received his education at the Technion – Israel Institute of Technology .

Shechtman is known for his work on quasicrystals , a unique type of matter that has ordered, but non-repeating structures. Due to his contributions in this field, he has received numerous awards, including the 1998 Israel Prize , the 1999 Wolf Prize in Physics , the 2000 Gregori Aminoff Prize , and the 2011 Nobel Prize in Chemistry . He is currently located in Israel .
