Chaino is a social network. It has over 40,000 registered users.
Chaino focuses on two areas: a user privacy system gives users control over how they are seen by others and allows for different profile photos for different groups of friends. The second revolves around support of offline social activities.
The idea for Chaino came about when Ali, the CEO, was working for Intel, leading a research project on sociability in the Middle East and Africa, i.e. how social activity could be supported with new hardware based on Intel microprocessors.
Chaino was founded in 2015 by Ali Zewail, who managed an IT firm in Cairo, and Mohamed Nar, a software developer. Chaino app allows users to segment their social life online by posting content based on relationships with friends, family or colleagues. Chaino has raised $1.3 million, mainly from angel investors.
In January Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella talked about the features of Chaino in the Microsoft Developers’ conference in Cairo in January.
Chaino gives online community owners ad revenue-sharing once they reach 10,000 active users.
In 2018, Chaino was ranked by Forbes Middle East as 78th in Top 100 Startups In The Arab World 2018.
