The company manufactures solid dosage forms (tablets, coated tablets, capsules), liquids (mixtures and drops), suppositories as well as infusion solutions at its production sites in Adlershof and Britz in Berlin.

In 1890, Johannes Kahlbaum founded the chemical-pharmaceutical company Kahlbaum Laborpraparate in Adlershof (Berlin).

In 1948, the factory, which was located in the zone of Soviet occupation, was confiscated by the Soviet occupation authorities and turned into a state enterprise.
Shortly before the fall of the Berlin Wall, the company was again transformed into a private corporation.
From the 1990s to the present day, the company has grown into a successful international drug manufacturer, operating in 26 countries and supplying drugs to more than 30 countries.
In general, the company now employs more than 5,000 people from more than 70 countries.
