The University of Barcelona, also known as Universidad de Barcelona or Universitat de Barcelona, is a public educational institute located in Barcelona, Spain. The university was founded on March 11, 1540 and is accredited by the Ministry of Universities of Spain. It belongs to the education, higher education, and university industries.
The University of Barcelona's motto is "Libertas perfundet omnia luce" or "Freedom bathes everything with light". The institution is a member of various networks and associations, including the Coimbra Group, European University Association, International Research Universities Network, and International Forum of Public Universities.
It is a subsidiary of the University of Barcelona (UB) and has established the UB-Barça, a collaboration between the university and FC Barcelona. This institution is also the founder of the Institute for Research in Biomedicine.
Furthermore, the University of Barcelona owns the Pavelló de la República CRAI Library and is a part of the Xarxa Vives d'Universitats, a network of Catalan universities.
