Thomas Alva Edison is american inventor and entrepreneur who received 1093 patents in the United States and about 3 thousand in other countries of the world ; creator of the phonograph ; improved the telegraph , telephone , film equipment , developed one of the first commercially successful variants of an electric incandescent lamp, which was a refinement of other options.
In 1928 he was awarded the highest honor of the United States - the Congressional Gold Medal . Member of the US National Academy of Sciences (1927) , foreign honorary member of the USSR Academy of Sciences (1930).
