The Rev attended Huntington Beach High School and later Ocean View High School .

Throughout his career, The Rev was known for his contributions to multiple genres of music, including heavy metal , punk rock , ska , progressive metal , hardcore punk , hard rock , metalcore , and rock . He was a citizen of the United States and held American nationality .

The Rev was one of the founders of the band Avenged Sevenfold . He passed away on December 28, 2009, in Huntington Beach, California .
