Steve Furber , born Stephen Byram Furber on March 21, 1953 , is a computer scientist and engineer from the United Kingdom . Born in Manchester , Furber was educated at Manchester Grammar School , St John's College, Cambridge , Emmanuel College, Cambridge , and the University of Cambridge . His doctoral advisor was John Ffowcs Williams .
Furber is best known for his work with Acorn Computers , where he served as CEO , and his involvement in the development of the ARM architecture, BBC Micro, SpiNNaker, and the Human Brain Project . Throughout his career, he has received numerous prestigious awards, including the Charles Stark Draper Prize (2022) , Royal Society Wolfson Research Merit Award (2004) , and the Millennium Technology Prize (2010) , among others.
