Starcraft (from the English Star Craft - literally “star craft”; sometimes translated as “star art”) - a computer game in the real -time strategy, developed and released by Blizzard Entertainment in 1998. On November 30 of the same year, an addition was issued - “Starcraft: Brood War”, which added new game units to the game and continued the plot of the original. In 2000, the game was ported to the Nintendo 64 game console - the port included both the original game and the addition of Brood War (it required its accessory Expansion Pak, which was installed in the console instead of Jumper Pak, expanding the RAM of the prefix "Nintendo 64"). In 2010, the first part of the Starcraft II sequel-trilogy: Wings of Liberty, in 2013-the second, Starcraft II: Heart of the Swarm, in 2015-the third, Starcraft II: Legacy of the Void.

Starcraft has similarities with the previous game of Blizzard Entertainment, Warcraft II, both in the name of the game and in the gameplay.

The parties to the conflict are represented by three game races: terraces, protosss and grains. One of the most important innovations of the game is the difference between the warring parties subject to the balance of forces. Starcraft is one of the first real strategies, in which each side differs not only in appearance, but also in the characteristics of its representatives, as well as the general battle strategy. The protosss have powerful, but expensive warriors and equipment, and graves surpass the enemy due to the number and speed. All other things being equal, no race has a significant advantage over another. Such conditions include the amount and location of resources in the immediate vicinity of the first base, defensive conditions of the terrain, the location in relation to other players.

The game comes together with the editor of the campaigns Starcraft (Starcraft Campaign Editor; also known as Staredit). The editor triggers system allows users to completely change the cards and create their own cards. The Starcraft community has created new editors and functionality that allows even more serious the game to change the game. Microstar sold CDs with new levels created using Staredit, but was forced to terminate this after Blizzard won the case in a lawsuit filed against these sales .

Scenarios, usually there are two types: battles (“Melee” or “Free for All”), or “Games using the Map Settings”, “[ums] Games”). There were a number of original cards using this regime, including football, racing, hunting, etc. In battles, all players begin the game in a random location only with the main basic structure for them (command center, incubator or nonsense) and four mining units.
