Sidney Altman

Sidney Altman was born on July 5, 1939 and held citizenship in both the United States and Canada. He was a prominent scientist with expertise in various fields such as biology, chemistry, biochemistry, and physics. Altman also worked as an academic.

Throughout his life, he received education at multiple prestigious institutions. Altman studied at Columbia University, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and the University of Colorado Boulder. He mentored doctoral student Benjamin C. Stark.

Altman was widely known for his work on ribozymes and was awarded the 1989 Nobel Prize in Chemistry for his contributions to the field. He passed away on May 4, 2022, in Rockleigh, New Jersey.
