Ruth Benedict (born 5 June 1887, in New York City) was an American anthropologist and poet. She held citizenship of the United States and was educated at Columbia University. Benedict occasionally wrote under the pseudonym Anne Singleton. She was a student of Franz Boas, who served as her doctoral advisor. Ruth Benedict passed away in New York City on 17 September 1948.
