Robert Benton (born September 29, 1932) is an American film director, screenwriter, and producer. He was born in Waxahachie, Texas and holds citizenship in the United States. Benton was educated at Columbia University.
Throughout his career, Benton has worked as a film director, screenwriter, writer, and producer. He released his debut creation in 1967, and his most recent work came out in 2007. Benton is best known for being the writer and director of the film Kramer vs. Kramer.
Benton directed a variety of films, including The Late Show, Bad Company, Kramer vs. Kramer, Still of the Night, Places in the Heart, Nadine, Nobody's Fool, Billy Bathgate, Feast of Love, and The House on Carroll Street. As a screenwriter, he authored the films Bonnie and Clyde, There Was a Crooked Man..., What's Up, Doc?, Superman, and The Ice Harvest.
