Relyance AI is a company developing an AI-powered platform for managing privacy, data governance, and compliance operations. Relyance AI uses machine learning to build a real-time data inventory and map to monitor how personal data moves through a company's code, applications, infrastructure, and to third-party vendors.
Based in Mountain View, California, Relyance AI was founded in 2020 by co-CEOs Leila Golchehreh and Abhi Sharma. Golchehreh is an entrepreneur and was previously a data protection attorney. Sharma is a tech entrepreneur and machine learning expert. The pair met at the end of 2019 and began discussing issues in the data protection and compliance space. Golchehreh presented a plan and UI/UX mockups to help solve these problems, and Sharma began looking at the problem from a machine learning perspective, envisioning a shift-left approach based on observability and compiler principles that could be applied to the data protection and compliance domain.
Relyance AI emerged from stealth on September 15, 2021, announcing $30 million in funding. This includes a series A round of $25 million on September 15, 2021, and a previous $5 million seed round. Menlo Ventures and Unusual Ventures led the series A round, while Unusual led the seed round. Relyance AI's board is made up of partners from their investors, Jyoti Bansal and John Vrionis from Unusual, and Matt Murphy from Menlo Ventures.
