Pavel Cherenkov (born on July 15, 1904 in Bobrovsky District and died on January 6, 1990 in Moscow) was a physicist from the Russian Empire and Soviet Union. He was educated at the Voronezh State University. Cherenkov is best known for characterizing Cherenkov radiation in the academic discipline of physics.
He worked under the supervision of his doctoral adviser Sergey Ivanovich Vavilov. Cherenkov was a recipient of various prestigious awards, including the Order of Lenin, Order of Honor, and Stalin Prize. Additionally, he was awarded the Hero of Socialist Labor title and the Medal "For Valiant Labor in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945". He was also honored with the Order of the Red Banner of Labour and the USSR State Prize.
Pavel Cherenkov was the son of Alexei Yegorovich Cherenkov and Maria Cherenkova.
