Overture Maps Foundation is an open map data project created by Amazon Web Services (AWS), Meta, Microsoft, and TomTom in December 2022. It is hosted by Linux Foundation. Overture Maps Foundation aims to power new map products using openly available datasets that can be reused and added to by other applications and businesses. Map data will be acquired through municipality data and existing projects like OpenStreetMap. On July 26, 2023, Overture Maps Foundation released its first worldwide open map dataset, allowing third-party developers to create their own global mapping or navigation products. The dataset included over 59 million designated places of interest and data regarding buildings, transportation networks, and administrative boundaries. Eventually, the organization will expand its map layers to include three-dimensional building data, as well as routing and navigation abilities.
