Lionel Hampton (born April 20, 1908, in Louisville, Kentucky; died August 31, 2002, in New York City) was an American musician, bandleader, composer, actor, and show business personality. A talented multi-instrumentalist, Hampton's occupations included being a pianist, percussionist, and vocalist. He is a citizen of the United States.
Hampton studied at the University of Southern California and the USC Thornton School of Music. He worked in various genres such as big band, swing music, mainstream jazz, blues, and jazz. Lionel Hampton was also involved in the music industry.
Throughout his career, Lionel Hampton went by a few pseudonyms: Безумный Лайонел, Хэмп, Безумный Лайонел, Esztelen Lionel, and Hemp. He was the founder of Who's Who in Jazz, an organization that aimed to promote the art form.
