Juris Hartmanis

Juris Hartmanis (born on 5th July 1928) is a mathematician and computer scientist originally from Riga, Latvia. He holds citizenships with both Latvia and the United States. Hartmanis received his education at multiple institutions, including the California Institute of Technology, the University of Missouri–Kansas City, and the University of Marburg.

In 1993, Hartmanis received the Turing Award, a prestigious recognition in the field of computer science. He has had a significant impact on the field, as evidenced by his numerous doctoral students, which include notable figures such as Neil Immerman, Allan Borodin, Edward Reingold, János Simon, Theodore Baker, Dexter Kozen, and Ming Li. His own doctoral advisor was Robert P. Dilworth. Currently, Hartmanis resides in the United States.
