John Dewey was a philosopher, psychologist, professor, and teacher from the United States. He was born on October 20, 1859, in Burlington, Vermont and educated at the University of Vermont . Dewey went on to become a prominent figure in the fields of philosophy and psychology, and he taught several subjects throughout his career.

Dewey also founded The New School, an esteemed institution of higher learning. Among his numerous students, he mentored doctoral student Hu Shih. John Dewey passed away on June 1, 1952, in New York City.
