Jan Potocki (1761-1815) was an anthropologist, historian, writer, and engineer from Poland. He was a citizen of the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth and the Russian Empire.
Born on March 8, 1761, in Pikiv, Ukraine, he was the child of Stanisław Potocki (1734–1802). Jan Potocki had two children: Alfred Wojciech Potocki and Artur Potocki. He died on December 2, 1815, in Vinnytsia.
