He was a king, count, poet, composer, troubadour, and politician . James II was known as the king of Aragon, the Count of Barcelona, and had the nicknames "Jaume II", "Jaime II", and "the Just" .

During his reign, he founded the University of Lleida and the Order of Montesa . He held citizenship of the Crown of Aragon and later, Spain .

James II had several children, including Alfonso IV of Aragon, Maria of Aragon, Lady of Cameros, Constance of Aragon, Isabella of Aragon, Queen of Germany, James of Aragon (monk), and John of Aragon (patriarch) .

He passed away on November 2, 1327, in Barcelona .
