Valencia is a city in Spain, the center of the autonomous community of Valencia and the province of the same name. The third most populous city in Spain after Madrid and Barcelona. It is located at the confluence of the partially drained Turia River in the Mediterranean Sea.
The city of Valencia is located on the Mediterranean coast of the Iberian Peninsula, on the large alluvial plain of the Jucar and Turia rivers, in the heart of the Gulf of Valencia. The primitive city was located about four kilometers from the sea, on the river island of Turkey. The closest mountains to the city are some of the last foothills of the Iberian System in the Valencian Community, such as El Puig and Sierra Calderona.
Nature parks
Font Roja — includes part of the El Alto de San Antonio, El Carrascar de la Font Roja and La Teixereta mountain ranges. The Sierra del Menejador Mountain (1,356 m) is the highest point of the park. Deciduous forest is found in the coldest and wettest areas of the park, as well as in areas located at an altitude of 1250 meters. There are such types of trees as ash, maple, yew, Portuguese oak and mountain ash. The plants growing here are rare for Valencia. In the forest part of the park there are many birds — robin, wren, finch, great tit, jay, gray owl, short-toed pipit, hawk, goshawk, peregrine falcon, white-headed barn owl. Among mammals, the wild boar stands out for its abundance. Also living in the park are the common genet, weasel, wild cat, marten and badger.
