Infosperber is an online information platform financed by the non-profit Swiss Foundation for the Promotion of Independent Information (SSUI). The paper was founded March 21, 2011 and is funded by donations to the SSUI. The board of trustees as SSUI is chaired by the founder of Infosperber, Urs P. Gasche.
The newspaper claims to be independent of economic, political, or ideological-religious interests; it bases these ideals, in particular on the UN Universal Declaration of Human Rights of December 10, 1948, a document detailing and identifying human rights and inherent freedoms. The publication aims to be a neutral source of information.
The publication does not seek to compete in the mass media news market but aims instead to be a supplemental source of information, exemplified in their motto: "Infosperber sees what others overlook." The journalistic work for Infosperber is largely voluntary, though compensation is available. There are guidelines for contributors, and all contributions are weighed according to relevance (politically, socially, economically). Readers may participate on the site with comments and are expected to keep in mind that all information is being conveyed through the lens of the author.
