Iannis Xenakis (1922-2001) was a composer, architect, engineer, and musician known for his work in electronic music and contemporary classical music. He held citizenship in both Greece and France. Xenakis was born in Brăila and passed away in Paris.
Xenakis received his education from the National Technical University of Athens, where he studied engineering. As an architect, he collaborated with famous architect Le Corbusier on projects such as the Philips Pavilion at the 1958 Brussels World’s Fair.
In addition to his work as an architect, Xenakis is known for his contributions to music, where he combined his knowledge of engineering and mathematics to create innovative compositions. In 1991, he founded the Centre de Création Musicale Iannis Xenakis (CCMIX), a music institute offering educational courses on computer-assisted musical composition.
