Frederick Gardner Cottrell

Frederick Gardner Cottrell was born on January 10, 1877, in Oakland, California. He held United States citizenship and was a chemist by occupation. Cottrell studied at the University of California, Berkeley, Leipzig University, and Harvard University. He passed away on November 16, 1948, in Berkeley, California.

In addition to his career as a chemist, Cottrell founded the International Auxiliary Language Association. His accomplishments earned him the recognition as a 1992 National Inventors Hall of Fame Inductee.
