Flying car is a personal transportation vehicle which can be driven on roads or used to fly from place to place. In 2020, no certified flying cars existed in the United States, however a number of automobile and aviation companies such as Porsche, Boeing, Lotus through Terrafugia, Aeromobile and Uber have flying car concepts in development.

Aeromoble 4.0 STOL

Slovenia based Aeromobile has developed a collapsible winged teardrop shaped vehicle for ground and air transportation designed by Štefan Klein. The vehicle was first flown in 2014. It is powered by a boxer combustion engine. In 2020, the company was taking pre-orders for the vehicle.

PAL-V Liberty

The PAL-V is a personal air to land flying vehicle. The vehicle is modeled after a helicopter and is rotary powered. The flying apparatus collapses for driving purposes. The company started development in 1999 and started its first test flights in 2009. It plans to deliver its first vehicles in 2021.

NFT ASKA

NFT ASKA is an electric vertical take off and landing vehicle currently being developed in California.

Terrfugia Transition

The Terrfugia Transition is a two seater airplane designed with folding wings that can be driven by private consumers to a runway. wIn 2016, the FAA gave Terrafugia an exemption for its Transition vehicle allowing it to be certified as a light sport aircraft. Terrafugia announced in 2019 that it was planning to begin production of the Transition by the end of the year.

Terrfugia TF-2

The TF-2 is a three part air and ground transportation system being developed by Terrfugia. It consists of a rotary powered air flight system from which a 4 seat ground transportation vehicle detaches for driving purposes. The system is eletrically powered.

Uber Elevate

Uber is developing a concept for aerial, electric powered ride sharing service. While the company is not directly developing flying car technology, it is investing in partner companies that are developing flying cars and related battery technologies.

Porsche and Boeing Concept

In 2019, it was announced that Porsche and Boeing would join forces through Boeing subsidiary Aurora Flight Services to develop a luxury vertical take off and landing flying car concept.
