F. Sherwood Rowland

F. Sherwood Rowland (also known as Frank Sherwood Rowland) was an American chemist, professor, and author who was born on June 28, 1927, in Delaware, Ohio. He held citizenship in the United States. Rowland was educated at Ohio Wesleyan University and the University of Chicago. Later, he worked under the mentorship of doctoral advisor Willard Libby.

Rowland was known for his research on ozone depletion. He received numerous awards for his work, including the 1976 Tolman Award, the 1983 Tyler Prize for Environmental Achievement, the 1989 Japan Prize, the 1993 Peter Debye Award, and the 1995 Nobel Prize in Chemistry.

F. Sherwood Rowland passed away on March 10, 2012, in Newport Beach, California.
