Eirene

Eirene is a Toronto-based cremation services company, founded by Faisal Abid and Mallory Greene. Clients use the Eirene platform to arrange cremation services at the time of passing. Once confirmed online, Eirene works with local crematorium and transfer partners across Ontario to ensure the deceased are safely transported from their place of passing, cremated, and the ashes are returned to their families. The platform also offers a complimentary estate administration tool for families to close accounts and notify the government along with unlimited proof of death certificates. Clients work with a care team of licensed funeral directions for client support.

According to Statistics Canada, seventy two percent of Canadians opted for cremation services in 2019. Eirene commissioned a study with Angus-Reid that revealed that more than one-third of Canadians feel unprepared to arrange a funeral service for their loved one, and sixty two percent of Canadians are not confident they can afford funeral services in the event of a loved one's passing.

Our study showed that at least half of Canadians would be comfortable arranging funeral services online, and that the COVID19 pandemic has influenced their preparedness planning for end-of-life services," said founder, Mallory Greene. "Families need peace-of-mind that their loved ones will be treated with dignity. Our Care Team and licensed funeral directors provide concierge-level support so that our clients have peace of mind during a difficult time in their family."

The most recent Auditor General's report highlighted a critical need for transparency in pricing and a standardization of how services are offered to consumers, particularly within the context of the COVID19 pandemic. Eirene, which is licensed by the Bereavement Authority of Ontario (BAO), addresses these industry issues through transparent service offerings and flat-fee pricing of $2,500 CAD for its cremation service.

Eirene announced in January 2021 that it is expanding its services across the province of Ontario, including the Kingston, Niagra, Simcoe, and London regions.
