Edgar Rice Burroughs (instance_of) was an American novelist, screenwriter, and writer known for his work in the genres of science fiction, western, planetary romance, sword and planet, and fantasy. He was born on September 1, 1875, in Chicago, and died on March 19, 1950, in California.
Burroughs was a United States citizen and was educated at Phillips Academy. He founded the company Edgar Rice Burroughs, Inc. and was the creator of the fictional character Tarzan.
His notable works include the Barsoom series and Tarzan. Edgar Rice Burroughs lived in Tarzana, Los Angeles, a neighborhood named after his character, Tarzan. He was the father of John Coleman Burroughs, who was also a writer.
