Dexter Gordon was a composer , actor , saxophonist , and musician from the United States . He was born on February 27, 1923, in Los Angeles and educated at Jefferson High School (Los Angeles) . Gordon was known for his work in the music industry and focused on genres such as jazz , bebop , swing music , and hard bop . He received the nickname "Long Tall Dexter" due to his physical stature . Gordon passed away on April 25, 1990, in Philadelphia .
