Daniel Kahneman was born on March 5, 1934, in Tel Aviv and holds dual citizenship in Israel and the United States. He is both a psychologist and economist, educated at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and the University of California, Berkeley. Kahneman's doctoral advisor was Susan M. Ervin-Tripp, and his doctoral students include Anat Ninio, Ziv Carmon, and Avishai Henik. He is known for his work in cognitive biases, behavioral economics, prospect theory, and loss aversion.
Over the course of his career, Daniel Kahneman has received numerous awards. In 2002, he received the Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences. Other accolades include the Presidential Medal of Freedom, APA Lifetime Achievement Award, Tufts University Leontief Prize, APS Distinguished Scientific Contribution Award, and the University of Louisville Grawemeyer Award.
