Peatlands are amazing carbon sinks when in a pristine state and are capable of absorbing over twice as much C02 as all the world’s forests, combined. Regrettably, 80% of the UK's peatlands are in a degraded state. When degraded, peatlands are a huge carbon bomb and emit gigatons of C02 into the atmosphere. If we can restore the 50 million hectares of degraded peatlands globally, we can prevent temperatures rising above 1.5c by 2030
