Bob Lee was an American tech executive. He was nicknamed "Crazy Bob" as a water polo player, for his ambition and drive. He is best known as one of the founders of Cash App, which launched during his tenure as CTO of Square, renamed Block in 2021. Later, Lee served as chief product officer of MobileCoin, a San Francisco-based cryptocurrency start-up. Lee was also known for his work at Google, where he worked as a software engineer and helped launch Android, the company's smartphone operating system.
Lee died on April 4, 2023, after being fatally stabbed early in the morning near downtown San Francisco. He was forty-three years old. Following Lee's death, tributes poured in from around the tech world, including from Block CEO Jack Dorsey and business magnate Elon Musk. Dorsey called Lee "the best Java programmer in the world."
