Alice & Bob

Alice&Bob is a Paris-based startup and developer of quantum computers. The company's quantum computer has self-correcting superconducting quantum bits that enable fault-tolerant quantum computing.

These self-correcting superconducting quantum bits would work to solve the problem of "quantum entanglement" and the host of "quantum errors" the computing qubits encounter when they start performing any computing tasks. Alice&Bob have developed their first prototype using research developed across a consortium of French universities and research universities. The company has a target of 5 years for its first fully operational quantum computer.

Part of solving the quantum errors has included Alice&Bob's superconducting cat qubits which have been engineered to be intrinsically insensitive to one of the two types of possible quantum errors. The prototype has reduced the rate of quantum errors by a factor of 300. This reduction in error rate is done through automated corrections to the errors present. Alice&Bob have focused their corrections and developments on hardware, based on their belief that hardware, rather than software or algorithms, is the key to solving the problems of quantum computing and quantum errors.

Alice&Bob was founded in February 2020 by Raphaël Lescanne and Théau Péronnin. They are based in Paris and were spun out of and remain affiliated with the École Normale Supérieure, at the Paris and Lyon campuses.
