AMSA

The Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) is a Commonwealth agency with responsibility for regulating the Australian marine environment.

AMSA's primary areas of responsibility are:

1. Regulating the training and certification of Australian maritime personnel,
2. Regulating the survey, certification and registration of Australian maritime vessels,
3. Managing Australia's marine safety and navigation infrastructure,
4. Monitoring and regulating maritime air and sea pollution, and
5. Coordinating Australia's search and rescue operations for vessels at sea, civil aircraft and manned space vehicles.
