Yaron Hadad

Yaron Hadad is a mathematician, physicist, and entrepreneur, working as VP of AI at the medical technology company Medtronic. In 2010, Hadad cofounded Nutrino, an AI-powered nutrition platform, becoming chief scientist. In 2018, Nutrino was acquired by Medtronic with Hadad becoming senior director of AI and then VP of AI. Hadad is an investor in a number of companies, including Stripe, Gradient Health, Ketryx (advisor & investor), Deep Sentinel, Flow Security, Giggster, Glovo, Grin (advisor & investor), and CodeOp (chairman of the advisory board and investor). Hadad is also a member of the VC company Band of Angels, an advisor to Omni Labs, and a board member of the America Technion Society.

Hadad graduated cum laude from the Technion Institute of Technology, Haifa, Israel, in 2006 with a BA in mathematics and physics. In 2013, he completed a PhD in mathematics and physics at the University of Arizona under advisor Professor Vladimir Zakharov. His thesis topic was on integrable nonlinear relativistic equations. Hadad has worked in various scientific areas, including deep learning and AI, general relativity, integrable systems, partial differential equations, and the foundations of quantum theory. Hadad has authored and co-authored scientific papers in a range of fields and has applied for a number of US patents related to methods for food analysis and personal recommendations for nutrition.

Nutrino was founded in 2010 by Yaron Hadad, Jonathan Lipnik, and Yael Glassman with the guiding principle that food affects each person differently, and therefore diets should be designed specifically for each individual. Hadad would become the company's chief scientist. The company's first product was a free app for creating personalized food plans, providing menu plans based on each user's goals, physical activity, and medical profile. Nutrino would go on to assemble a database for medical device companies defining links between diet, personal habits, and physiology, working with a number of partners, including Medtronic, Abbot Laboratories, and Dexcom.

In November 2018, Medtronic announced it was acquiring Nutrino for an undisclosed sum, estimated to be in the region of $80 million. The two companies had worked together since 2016. As part of the deal, Medtronic integrated Nutrino’s AI-driven personalized insights and food database with plans to improve the company's offering for people living with diabetes. As part of the acquisition, Hadad became senior director of AI for Medtronic and then VP for AI.
