Wancher is known for their premium fountain pen with Japanese art such as Urushi and Maki-e. The company also produces writing instruments and stationery accessories, but is best known for its fountain pens.
Founded by Taizo Okagaki in 1987, the company was first a fountain pen retailer named Engeika which sold many Japanese fountain pens overseas. After years of selling fountain pens, Taizo Okagaki started making his own fountain pens and created brand Wancher.
In 2018, Wancher started a project on Kickstarter called Dream Pen. By 1 March, the project had reached funds of around 2,200,000 JPY for three fountain pen models which are made from Ebonite with Japanese traditional arts. Wancher's main fountain pen collection is Dream Pen including Japanese fountain pens with traditional arts such as Urushi and Maki-e.
Besides fountain pens, Wancher also makes ballpoint pens, pen cases, and other pen accessories such as pen pillow and fountain pen ink. In 2018, Wancher was featured on Japan Finance Corporation Magazine as one of three outstanding company of Japanese-quality-standard. The magazine title is Made in Japan.
