Tongji University is a Shanghai-based university that offers undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral programs to its students. It has 29 colleges and is affiliated with eight hospitals. Some of the schools within the university include the school of Sciences, the school of Architecture and Urban Planning, and the school of Engineering.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, the Dongfang Hospital, which is an affiliate of the university, and the Chinese biotechnology company Stemirna started a collaboration to develop a vaccine for the virus. They synthesized matrix ribonucleic acid (mRNA) with several sequences of different antigens and are in the pre-clinical stage of development for the vaccine.
