Quanta has over 70,000 employees globally, of which roughly 5,000 people are located in headquarters with the majority working in R&D and engineering development. Quanta operates production and service locations across Asia, North America, Latin America, Europe, and Southeast Asia. The company's global deployment is built on the principle of “Taiwan design, smart manufacturing, global logistics, and sales.” Quanta relies on production sites in Taiwan, China (Shanghai, Changshu, Chongqing), and Thailand. To improve the effectiveness of mass production with centralized management and just-in-time distribution, Quanta established regional manufacturing sites and maintenance locations in Taiwan, the US, and Europe for top-down integration and the adoption of automation and smart manufacturing at production sites.

Quanta China

Quanta Computer operates manufacturing sites in China:

  • Quanta Shanghai Manufacturing City (QSMC)—Built in March 2001, QSMC is located in Songjiang, Shanghai and is made up of seven subsidiary companies including Tech Front, Tech Com, Tech Wave, Tech Lead, Tech Giant, Tech Trend, and Song Yeh (Shanghai) Property Management. The main products manufactured are notebook computers and cloud-based products.
  • Quanta Changsu Manufacturing City (CSMC)—Built in 2006, CSMC is located in Changshu the High-Tech Industrial Park, Jiangsu Province. Its main products are digital electronics.
  • Quanta Chongqing Manufacturing City (QCMC)—Construction of QCMC Phase I began in December 2010 and was completed in January 2012, with phase II completed and put into operation in April 2012. Located in Chongqing Xiyong Micro-Electronics Industrial Park, QCMC mainly produces notebook computers.
Quanta Cloud Technology (QCT)

In 2000, Quanta Computer established its Enterprise Solution Business Unit (ESBU), reorganizing it as the Cloud Computing Business Unit (CCBU) in 2010. At the time, CCBU's primary revenue source was original design manufacturing (ODM), but with the direct sale portion of the business growing quickly QCT (a subsidiary of Quanta Computer) was launched in May 2012.

QCT is a global data center solution provider, combining hyperscale hardware with infrastructure software from a diversity of industry leaders to solve next-generation data center design and operation challenges. QCT serves cloud service providers, telecoms, and enterprises running public, hybrid, and private clouds. Product lines include hyper-converged and software-defined data center solutions as well as servers, storage, switches, and integrated racks with a diverse ecosystem of hardware components and software partners.

Quanta Storage Inc. (QSI)

Founded in 1999, QSI develops optical storage products, from design to manufacturing. In 2004, QSI engaged in the development and manufacture of consumer electronic products. In 2006, QSI began producing automotive electronic products.

RoyalTek

RoyalTek was founded in 1997 with a focus on developing global satellite positioning and wireless communication technology. In January 2006, RoyalTek became a member of the Quanta Group, allowing Quanta Computer to create a top-down integration of technology and manufacturing. RoyalTek’s main products include the following:

History

Quanta Computer was established by Barry Lam in 1988. Originally located in Shilin District, Taipei City, the company relocated its manufacturing site to Taoyuan in 1989. By 1996, Quanta Computer achieved record notebook shipments, becoming the number one notebook manufacturer in Taiwan for the first time. In 1997, Quanta broke ground on new headquarters and factory buildings in Hwaya Technology Park in the Linko district. In 1998, the company's annual notebook computer shipments exceeded 1 million.

Quanta Computer was first listed on the Taiwan Stock Exchange (TWSE) in 1999, the same year they inaugurated a manufacturing site located in Hwaya, Taoyuan City, and founded the Quanta Storage Inc. (QSI) subsidiary. In 2000, Quanta Computer opened a new R&D center, established a manufacturing site in Shanghai, and opened its Enterprise Solution Business Unit (ESBU). In 2001, Quanta Computer became the world's largest manufacturer of notebook computers and opened Quanta Shanghai Manufacturing City (QSMC).

Quanta Computer opened the Quanta Research & Development Complex (QRDC) and Quanta Research Institute (QRI) in 2003 and 2005, respectively. In 2006, the company's second manufacturing site in China, Quanta Changsu Manufacturing City (CSMC) was completed and they announced a strategic alliance with RoyalTek to complete vertical integration of its GPS technology and manufacturing capabilities. In 2008, Quanta completed the manufacturing site for Hwaya medical devices. In 2009, they opened the Quanta Arts and Performance Center and revealed their new "3C" (Cloud Computing, Connectivity, and Client Device) strategy to achieve the goal of developing cloud computing markets.

In 2010, the ESBU reorganized as the Cloud Computing Business Unit (CCBU), and Phase I construction of Quanta's third manufacturing site in China, Quanta Chongqing Manufacturing City (QCMC) began in December. QCMC Phase I was completed in January 2012, closely followed by Phase II in April. In May 2012, with CCBU's direct sale business growing quickly that business was separated into the subsidiary Quanta Cloud Technology (QCT).
